Cultural Events

Currently the most significant cultural events of the Freguesia do Coimbrão occurs between June and August. It starts with the Gastronomic Festival of Coimbrão, and event that intends to preserve the gastronomic culture of the region and in particular of the Freguesia do Coimbrão.
Also in June there is the Sardine Fesyival in Praia do Pedrógão.
In the month of July, the Folklore group of Coimbrão, Flores de Verde Pinho, organizes the annual Festival of Folklore of the West, where they present themselves to the community and visitors, with the dances and songs of the Freguesia do Coimbrão, and host other folklore groups from all over the country.
Between June and Sptember there are several festivities, all connected with religion. The tradition as been kept and after the mass a procession is carried out, followed with the sale of some goods offered by people and the festivities end with the dancing moment.
In the freguesia do Coimbão there are also developed some sportive events, such as football games, fishing competitions and automobile races. All these events are run by the local sportive and cultural clubs.


Songs

Formerly, the main subsistence mean of people was agriculture. People worked together, in big groupsand it was very common to hear them sing while working in the fields.
With modernization, people sarted abandoning agriculture to dedicate themselves to other professions, and the groups became smaller and the singing habit got lost.
One of the solutions foound to preserve some of the songs and some of the dances was the creation of Folklore groups. In the freguesia of Coimbrão there were created 2 groups: Rancho Folclórico Flores de Verde Pinho from Coimbrão, founded in 1960 and the Rancho Folclórico das Tricanas of Praia do Pedrógão, founded in the decade of 50 that ended its performances in the decade of 80 of the XX century.
Nowadays, the Folklore group Flores de Verde Pinho in some festivals at national and international level and it’s a a vehicle to present the way of living of the Freguesia do Coimbrão some generations ago.
