Gastronomy

In Coimbrão there was always a big diversity in food, based mostly in fish like sardines, mackerel, ray, squids, among others. Also mear was and continues to be very present like
chicken, rabbit, duck, pork and cow.
As for the cow meat, it was not very common in the table of families of Coimbrão, in the opposite way pork meat was very appreciated and very common, as as people say in this parish, you take everything what’s possible to take from pork to eat. Some examples of more typical plates are blood-sausage of rice, cakes of blood-sausage, , chicken soup, roasted chicken, fish stew.
Nowadays refrigerators and freezers are used for the conservation of some goods, mainly meat and fish, but it has not been always this way, before electricity, in order to keep goods, people were using some boxes, or arks, where they put the goods involved in salt. Anytime they wanted to eat some peace of meat, they were taking it from the salt and cooked it.
Deserts are not forgotten and one of the most known is a cake named as Bolo da Festa.
